Best local co-op games for two on the couch in 2026

I put this list together myself: couch games with split-screen. I tried to pick the best of each genre (as of 2026; we’ll keep updating). Each category has quick cards you can swipe left and right to find what clicks.

The idea is that tonight you know what to put on the TV.

Story adventures

Campaigns built for two. They’re all from the same studio, and that’s no accident: they’ve found their niche in well-made split-screen games. Split Fiction is the peak; it’ll blow your mind how polished it is. That’s why I’d save it for last: after that one, the others (also excellent) can feel like a step down.

Buying tips: Everything from this studio goes on sale often. I’ve seen Split Fiction at €32.49 on Steam and It Takes Two at €11.99. There’s also an A Way Out + It Takes Two bundle that dips to around €19.93. Check the deals so you don’t overpay.

Casual adventures

Lighter, more affordable games: gorgeous, easy to pick up without frying your brain. Simple mechanics (great if one of you is less game-fluent), but still worth your time. These are the ones I’m personally fondest of.

Buying tips: Unravel Two goes very deep on sale: I’ve seen it at €4.99 on Steam (−75%). LEGO Voyagers often lands around €17 in sales. Full-price Sackboy on PC hurts; check PlayStation Plus or a strong deal before dropping €60.

Deep adventures (RPGs)

Different league. Brace for very long sessions that will eat plenty of weekends.

Buying tips: Baldur’s Gate 3 often drops: I’ve seen €41.99 (−30%). Divinity: Original Sin 2 Definitive crashes hard on sale (€11.24, −75%, on Steam right now). Diablo III Eternal Collection is €39.99 on Battle.net, but consoles and Game Pass are often much cheaper; don’t pay “full” without checking.

Shooters

When you both can keep up… or you want to fight and laugh for a bit. Heads-up: Cuphead and Enter the Gungeon are not a first couch date if one of you frustrates easily. Broforce is more forgiving.

Buying tips: All three go on sale often and often land under €5 in big Steam sales. At list price (Cuphead €19.99; Gungeon and Broforce €14.79) they’re only worth it if you want them now; if you can wait a week of sales, wait.

Sofa chaos

These shine most with four players, but two is still plenty. If you want co-op for a couple or friends without a long campaign, this is the block that converts hardest. Fun, fast, easy.

Buying tips: PlateUp! is €4.87 on Steam right now (from €19.50). Moving Out 2 base €29.99; I’ve seen Deluxe (€42.99) at €10.74 (−75%). Overcooked! All You Can Eat at €39.99 list often lands near €12: don’t pay full if you can wait.

Closing notes

A few details worth keeping in mind:

• A lot of these games get brutal discounts. Bundles of two or three titles for peanuts, or drops of up to 75%. I can’t list every deal I’ve seen (and they change fast), but check carefully before you buy.
• The cards include an estimated length: I used sources like HowLongToBeat or official pages (I don’t remember how long I took on some of them). It’s main-story time; extras and collectibles can blow that up.
• Some games have Friend’s Pass: for online, one copy is enough. The other person downloads the free Friend’s Pass build and joins at no extra cost.
