Halo: Campaign Evolved launched on July 28, 2026 on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC (Microsoft Store and Steam). It’s a from-scratch remake (Unreal Engine 5) of the Halo: Combat Evolved (2001) campaign and, on Xbox and PC, it’s day one on Game Pass.

For a lot of PlayStation players this will be the first meeting with Master Chief: until now the classic saga mostly lived in the Xbox/PC ecosystem.

What’s it about? (no spoilers)

You’re back in Master Chief and Cortana’s first adventure on the Halo ring: shooting, exploring, and that military sci-fi mix that defined the brand. This isn’t a side-universe spin-off: it’s the origin of the series, rebuilt with modern looks and, per Microsoft, with extra content (Operation: METEORITE) in every edition.

If you just want the vibe check: think third-person shoot… wait, first-person, with a lead who’s more space knight than chainsaw maniac.

Price and how to play (Europe)

From the Xbox Wire announcement (eurozone list prices; VAT depends on the store):

EditionList price
Standard€59.99
Premium€79.99 (included early access; that window is closed)
Collector’s€199.99

That jump to nearly €200 isn’t just the game: Collector’s includes everything in Premium (armor and weapon skins, digital art and story collection, and so on) plus the physical collector pack: a Master Chief statue (Dark Horse), an illuminated Cortana chip, Steelbook, concept-art prints, the physical manual, and the disc (or a code, depending on platform). That’s the price: digital cosmetics plus shelf candy.

The cheapest path on Xbox/PC, if you already pay for the sub: Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass. Plan details in Game Pass explained. On PlayStation you buy at store price; it isn’t a day-one PS Plus catalog title.

There’s cross-play and cross-progression across Xbox, PC (Microsoft/Steam), and PS5.

Who’s it for?

  • Never played Halo and you have a PS5 (or Game Pass): this is the clean starting point.
  • Already finished classic Combat Evolved or Anniversary: here’s the 2026 version to compare and rediscover.
  • Want the whole Chief story after this: on Xbox/PC you continue with the Master Chief Collection, Halo 5, and Infinite. On PS5, for now, the rest of the classic saga still isn’t there.

If the name soup (Anniversary, MCC, Infinite…) is confusing, we’ve got Halo: where to start and what to buy.
