Everything we know about Minecraft's new dimension
GameMinecraft: Java EditionGo to community
It finally happened: at Minecraft Live in September 2026, Mojang confirmed what the community had been asking for for years (and no, it is not an End update): a fourth dimension. It is called The Sift, and it joins the Overworld, the Nether, and the End. It is the first new dimension in over fourteen years.
This piece focuses on what we know about The Sift, and we will update it if more details land. At the end there is a short summary of the rest of the Minecraft Live announcements.
Everything we know about The Sift
Mojang stayed careful on timing:
- Java Edition and Bedrock Edition: The Sift arrives next year, meaning 2027.
- It already exists in Minecraft Dungeons II. Anyone who wants a feel for the atmosphere and look can try it there while base Minecraft waits for its own version.
During the Live they showed a glimpse of The Sift inside Minecraft (remember: it does not have to share content with what you saw in Dungeons II) and at least one mob confirmed for this dimension: the Blub, a small bluish creature you can see in the image below. For the rest of the bestiary, biomes, structures, bosses (if any), and mechanics, there is still no news; that will come in later announcements.

What we still do not know
Best not to mix rumor with announcement:
- An exact day on Java/Bedrock.
- Whether it arrives as a named update or spread across several drops.
- How you reach it from the Overworld (portal, item, structure).
- The rest of the mobs, biomes, and blocks beyond the Blub.
- Whether localized names (including Spanish) will change or stay The Sift.
The rest of Minecraft Live
Beyond The Sift, the show had other news. Here is the full stream and a brief rundown of what was announced.
Ice caves (next game drop)
Before the new dimension, a game drop focused on adventure:
- New biome: ice caves, in line with other underground biomes added in recent years.
- Dominated by ice, calcite, ice stalactites, and small crystals that give off soft light.
- New mob: a frozen zombie (no official name yet) with a freezing effect on hit; some throw ice balls.
- Date: no exact day; only that it is “the next” drop.

Other announcements
- Minecraft Dungeons II: already out (Sep 29, 2026).
- Creator platform: lowering the barrier to create, manage, and share content.
- Marketplace: sound effects packs on the way (no date).
- Minecraft World: park at Chessington (London) in 2027, with a themed hotel and the Escape the Nether roller coaster.
- Switch 2: Minecraft on October 27, 2026.
- Education: tenth anniversary.
One more thing: if you bought Minecraft for Nintendo Switch, you can get the Nintendo Switch 2 version for free into early next year. Claim it in the store before the offer ends.
In short
The Sift is the big headline: a fourth dimension for Java and Bedrock in 2027, already playable in Dungeons II. The rest of the Live (ice caves, Switch 2, the park, Marketplace…) is context around an announcement that got almost everyone excited. Official source: the September Minecraft Live recap.
