This month Marvel’s Wolverine is on our radar: it lands September 15, 2026 exclusively on PlayStation 5 (€79.99 standard edition). There is no PS4 or PC version confirmed, and it is not day one on the PS Plus Extra catalog.

What’s it about?

Marvel’s Wolverine is the new action adventure from Insomniac Games and Marvel Games, published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. After the Spider-Man games, the studio shifts register: more visceral combat, an original story centered on Logan, and a much darker tone. Insomniac defines it as a single-player narrative adventure; it is not open world like the Spider-Man games, but action built around stages and set pieces (motorcycle chases, ambushes, fights against the Reavers’ cybernetic militia).

In the June State of Play footage, Logan tails captured mutants while Jean Grey joins the fight as a combat ally. The loop leans on claws, counterattacks, Techniques, building Rage to heal or unleash the most savage mode, and Critical Strikes you can pull off solo or in combo with other characters. Factions and faces from the X-Men universe show up (Trask, Sabretooth, Mystique in the trailer), but the premise is clear: cornered mutants, humans who don’t know they exist, and a Logan who returns to Team X after three years away.

Here’s how the game looks; the trailer is at the bottom if you want to see it in motion:

Bottom line (and a quick take)

For years I wondered whether Insomniac could do another Marvel without falling into the Spider-Man formula. The June gameplay convinces me more on direction than on scale: less “swing through Manhattan” and more dirty fighting, choices to ambush or go in hard, and team-up moments with Jean that echo comic finales. The tone is more adult and bloody; if explicit violence bothers you, watch the trailer before you pre-order.

What gives me pause is the base price (€79.99), now standard for Sony AAA but steep compared to other action games this year. In return, it’s the big first-party exclusive for PS5 this fall before GTA VI lands, and Sony has made clear this kind of single-player isn’t heading to PC anytime soon.

  • If you have a PS5 and liked Insomniac’s Spider-Man games: it’s the month’s launch, but in a different register (more linear and more violent).
  • If you expected another open world like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: this looks stage-based and set-piece driven; the gameplay trailer is mandatory viewing.
  • If you only play on PC or Xbox: no version announced today; PS5, or wait (no date or public commitment).
  • The date is also on our releases calendar.
